PUTRAJAYA, Malaysia July 11 (NNN-Bernama) -- Japanís Foreign Minister Taro Kono paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad at the latterís office in Perdana Putra here today.

They discussed matters of bilateral interest. Kono was accompanied by Japanís Ambassador to Malaysia, Dr Makio Miyagawa.

Earlier, Kono had a meeting with his Malaysian counterpart, Saifuddin Abdullah, at Wisma Putra (Malaysian Foreign Ministry).

Kono, who is on a two-day visit to Malaysia beginning yesterday, is the first minister from Japan to call on the Prime Minister since the Pakatan Harapan coalition came to power after the 14th general election in May.

Early last month, Dr Mahathir made a visit to Japan after taking office as the seventh prime minister of Malaysia following the general election.

Japan is Malaysiaís largest foreign direct investment contributor. Last year, its FDI stock to Malaysia was about US$13 billion.
