KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 12 (NNN-Bernama) -- A factory technician was sentenced to eight years in prison by the High Court here today for pledging allegiance to Daesh.

Justice Azman Abdullah meted out the punishment to Muhammad Safuan Mohd, 29, after he pleaded guilty to committing the offence through the Telegram application \'Gagak Hitam\' under the name Abu Marwan Salaki at his house in Seksyen U5 (Panasuria) Petaling, Selangor at 3.29 am on March 30, 2016.

The father of two also received another three years for possession of 72 videos, 19 photographs and 419 manuscripts related to the terrorist group at the parking lot near his residence, around 7 pm on Oct 6, 2016.

Nevertheless, the court ordered his sentences to run concurrently from his arrest on Oct 6 last year.

Azman noted that Muhammad Safuan had the intention to go to Syria, which, if left unchecked, would be detrimental to the country.
