MEDEA, ALGERIA, April 21 (NNN-APS) -- Energy Minister Noureddine Boutara has highlighted the need for Algeria to begin transforming its hydrocarbon resources and to further develop its petrochemical industry with a view to reducing the impact of price fluctuations witnessed on the international markets.

The petrochemical industry will be one of the focus points of the hydrocarbon valorization policy advocated by the Government, he stressed when speaking to the media on the sidelines of an inspection visit to Medea, about 80 kilometres south of here, Thursday. He added that this option would continue to be adopted to absorb the impact of the fall in oil prices.

The instability which characterizes the oil market in the past two years, coupled with the low price of gas on international markets, are “indicators that push us to better valorize the country’s hydrocarbon resources”, he explained.

“We should process our hydrocarbon resources in Algeria instead of undergoing oil market fluctuations,” he said. -- NNN-APS
