PAKISTAN: FORMER PM NAWAZ SHARIF IN DEFIANT RALLY

PAKISTAN: FORMER PM NAWAZ SHARIF IN DEFIANT RALLY. A huge convoy of deposed Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif leaves Islamabad, Pakistan on August 9, 2017. Sharif kick-started his mass contact campaign in a move aimed at demonstrating his political strength by leading a rally from the capital to his home city of Lahore, ignoring security threats. Sharif planned to travel with a convoy of supporters by road from the capital, Islamabad to Lahore. Sharif said the Supreme Court's decision to depose him last month was a "joke" and an insult to voters as he addressed a rally in Rawalpindi Wednesday. The procession took 12 hours to travel just 20 kilometres (12 miles) from the capital to Rawalpindi. Sharif said he would stay the night there before continuing towards Lahore, where he hopes to bring tens of thousands into the streets in a show of force. Photo courtesy PTI Photo
