PRESIDENT OF BOLIVIA NAMED FAO SPECIAL AMBASSADOR. FAO Director-General, José Graziano da Silva (right), appoints Bolivian president Evo Morales Ayma, as Special Ambassador for the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) for the International Year of Quinoa, in recognition of his effort to promote quinoa, an Andean American food, at the headquarters of the UN agency in Rome, Italy, on 11 June 2012. The award entitles him as a promoter of this nutrient to alleviate hunger and poverty in the world. Due to efforts of the Bolivian state, UN decided to declare 2013 as the International Year of Quinoa, and unanimously FAO member countries elected Bolivia as president of the international committee program coordinator.
