BRASILIA, Feb 22 (NNN-AGENCIES) \u2013 Brazil Vice President Hamilton Mourao on Thursday dismissed US threats of military intervention in Venezuela as \u201cpremature\u201d and said it \u201cwouldn\u2019t make sense.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI think they\u2019re more in the realm of rhetoric than action,\u201d Mourao said,
referring to the threats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe Venezuela question needs to be resolved by Venezuelans.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mourao\u2019s comments came after Venezuela President Nicolas Maduro announced earlier that the border with Brazil would be shut \u201ccompletely and absolutely\u201d until further notice from 8:00 pm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But Mourao said that \u201cdoesn\u2019t signify an act of aggression.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis reaction is simply a way to prevent the humanitarian aid process,\u201d he
said, adding that Venezuela \u201chas the right to whatever it wants on its side
of the border.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

President Jair Bolsonaro\u2019s spokesman Otavio Rego Barros also dismissed the
possibility of Maduro\u2019s decision causing \u201cfrictions\u201d between the neighbors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maduro\u2019s move came two days before a deadline set by opposition leader Juan Guaido for humanitarian aid stockpiled in Colombia, Brazil and the island of Curacao to be brought into Venezuela.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The self-proclaimed acting president, recognized as such by 50 countries,
set out in a convoy of vehicles from Caracas towards the border with Colombia on Thursday to personally take charge of the aid entry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A bridge border crossing between the two countries remains blocked by the
military, though, with Maduro vowing not to let it in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The embattled socialist leader also said on Thursday he was considering \u201ca
total closure of the border with Colombia.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The issue of aid has taken center stage in the power-struggle between
Maduro and Guaido, the president of the opposition controlled National
Assembly legislature.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Guaido has branded Maduro a usurper over his controversial reelection last
May in polls boycotted by the opposition, many of whose leaders were unable to stand due to being imprisoned, barred or in exile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 35-year-old Guido wants to force out Maduro, 56, so he can set up a
