{"id":99504,"date":"2020-11-02T20:53:08","date_gmt":"2020-11-02T12:53:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=99504"},"modified":"2020-11-02T20:53:10","modified_gmt":"2020-11-02T12:53:10","slug":"parliament-sittings-cant-be-held-virtually-ismail-sabri","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=99504","title":{"rendered":"Parliament sittings can&#8217;t be held virtually &#8211; Ismail Sabri"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 2\u00a0(NNN-BERNAMA) \u2014\u00a0The Constitution and parliamentary standing orders, as well as\u00a0various other constraints,\u00a0do not allow\u00a0Dewan Rakyat sittings to be held virtually, Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Yaakob said today.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said despite there being suggestions&nbsp;to hold it virtually, the sessions must be conducted as usual, but with very strict standard operating procedures in place.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBased on Article 62 (5), in terms of voting, the process must be done in Parliament and not out of it\u2026\u00a0 including for the budget and the bills&#8230; it has to be done in Parliament,\u201d he said at a media conference on the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) here today.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ismail Sabri&nbsp;cited the Australian Parliament virtual sessions, in which&nbsp;members of parliament over there cannot vote or interject during debates.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHaving too many constraints would be&nbsp;difficult, so we will continue the parliament sessions normally but with very&nbsp;strict SOPs,&#8221; he said.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ismail Sabri said as a precaution, all MPs are also required to take a COVID-19 swab test three days before the&nbsp;session begins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMPs from Sabah must first complete their quarantine, only then they are allowed to enter Parliament.
