{"id":97444,"date":"2020-10-19T19:48:32","date_gmt":"2020-10-19T11:48:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=97444"},"modified":"2020-10-19T19:48:34","modified_gmt":"2020-10-19T11:48:34","slug":"two-malaysians-escape-the-gallows-in-singapore","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=97444","title":{"rendered":"Two Malaysians escape the gallows in Singapore"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>By Massita Ahmad<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>SINGAPORE, Oct 19 (NNN-BERNAMA) &#8212;\u00a0Two Malaysian men escaped the noose in Singapore this week with one having\u00a0had his conviction set aside by the Court of Appeal, which then\u00a0found him guilty of a reduced charge of attempting to import drugs into the republic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The cases involving the two Malaysians, however,&nbsp;were not related.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Court of Appeal&nbsp;today set aside the&nbsp;conviction on&nbsp;Gobi Avedian, who was nabbed by the authorities&nbsp;at&nbsp;the Woodlands Checkpoint six years ago and later&nbsp;charged with one count of importing not less than 40.22g of diamorphine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Instead, the Court&nbsp;sentenced him to&nbsp;15 years\u2019 imprisonment with effect from the date of his arrest on Dec 11, 2014, and to 10 strokes of the cane.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The decision was confirmed by Gobi&#8217;s counsel, M.
