{"id":96343,"date":"2020-10-12T11:48:51","date_gmt":"2020-10-12T03:48:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=96343"},"modified":"2020-10-12T11:48:54","modified_gmt":"2020-10-12T03:48:54","slug":"us-presidential-election-top-government-scientist-says-pres-trump-campaign-ad-twists-his-words-on-virus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=96343","title":{"rendered":"US presidential election: Top government scientist says Pres Trump campaign ad twists his words on virus"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignwide\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bssnews.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/1-33.jpg\"><img src=\"http:\/\/www.bssnews.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/1-33.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>WASHINGTON, Oct 12 (NNN-AGENCIES) &#8212; Top government scientist Anthony Fauci said that an ad aired by Donald Trump\u2019s re-election campaign was edited to make him seem to endorse the president\u2019s handling of the coronavirus pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIn my nearly five decades of public service, I have never publicly endorsed any political candidate,\u201d Fauci, the longtime director of the National Institute of Allergies and Infectious Diseases, said in a statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The 30-second campaign ad cites Trump\u2019s personal experience with the virus \u2014 \u201cPresident Trump is recovering from the coronavirus, and so is America,\u201d it says \u2014 before including a brief clip in which Fauci appears to praise the president\u2019s response to the pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI can\u2019t imagine that anybody could be doing more,\u201d Fauci is shown as saying, creating the clear impression he is referring to Trump.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But a complete clip of Fauci\u2019s comments, made during an interview in March with Fox News, shows the doctor saying: \u201cI have been devoting almost full time on this. I\u2019m down at the White House virtually every day with the task force. It\u2019s every single day. So, I can\u2019t imagine that under any circumstances that anybody could be doing more.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In his statement Sunday, Fauci said, \u201cThe comments attributed to me without my permission in the GOP campaign ad were taken out of context from a broad statement I made months ago about the efforts of federal public health officials.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Trump defended the clip, and his handling of pandemic, and rebutted the doctor\u2019s criticism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThey are indeed Dr. Fauci\u2019s own words.
