{"id":93910,"date":"2020-09-25T17:40:01","date_gmt":"2020-09-25T09:40:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=93910"},"modified":"2020-09-25T17:40:03","modified_gmt":"2020-09-25T09:40:03","slug":"malaysian-pm-to-reaffirm-stand-on-palestine-rohingya-in-malaysias-statement-at-unga","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=93910","title":{"rendered":"Malaysian PM to Reaffirm Stand on Palestine, Rohingya in Malaysia&#8217;s Statement at UNGA"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>PUTRAJAYA (Malaysia), Sept 25 (Bernama) &#8212; Malaysian Prime\nMinister Muhyiddin Yassin is set to reaffirm Malaysia\u2019s long-standing position\non the question of Palestine and plight of the Rohingya in Rakhine state when\ndelivering Malaysia&#8217;s national statement at the general debate of the 75th\nSession of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on Sept 26.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Addressing the general debate in New York via a pre-recorded\nvideo, Muhyiddin is also expected to underscore the importance of collective\naction by member states, as well as the United Nations (UN),&nbsp; in addressing global challenges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;The Prime Minister is also expected to raise the issue\nof reforming the UN,&#8221; said Wisma Putra (Malaysia\u2019s Foreign Ministry) in a\nstatement Friday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This year\u2019s general debate themed, &#8216;The future we want, the\nUnited Nations we need: Reaffirming our collective commitment to\nmultilateralism \u2013 confronting COVID-19 through effective multilateral action&#8217;,\nfocuses on the need to strengthen international cooperation amidst the\ndisruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic,\u201d it added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Wisma Putra said the High-Level Week of the 75th Session of\nthe UNGA featured three mandated high-level meetings, in which Malaysia would\nbe represented at the ministerial level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the statement, Energy and Natural Resources\nMinister, Dr Shamsul Anuar Nasarah is scheduled to address the summit on\nBiodiversity on Sept 30 via a pre-recorded video.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The summit will convene under the theme, &#8216;Urgent action on\nbiodiversity for sustainable development&#8217;. It is expected to highlight the need\nfor urgent action at the highest level in support of a post-2020 global\nbiodiversity framework, which contributes to the implementation of the 2030\nAgenda for Sustainable Development, as well as realising the goal of the 2050\nVision for Biodiversity, &#8216;Living in harmony with nature&#8217;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On Oct 1, Women, Family and Community Development Minister,\nRina Mohd Harun is scheduled to deliver Malaysia\u2019s statement virtually to the\nhigh-level meeting of the general assembly on the 25th anniversary of the\nFourth World Conference on Women.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;In line with the\ntheme, &#8216;Accelerating the realisation of gender equality and the empowerment of\nall women and girls&#8217;, the high-level meeting is expected to highlight\nachievements, best practices and challenges in addressing gender inequality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Foreign Minister, Hishammuddin Hussein will deliver\nMalaysia\u2019s statement at the high-level meeting to commemorate and promote the\nInternational Day for the Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons on Oct 2 via a\npre-recorded video.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The commemoration aims to raise public awareness and seek\ndeeper engagement on the topic of nuclear disarmament to achieve a world free\nof the threat of nuclear weapons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Wisma Putra said Malaysia remained committed to its role as\na constructive and reliable partner of the UN and its member states and pledged\nto continue working with the international community to combat the COVID-19\npandemic and the reconstruction following a post-COVID-19 world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8212; BERNAMA<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>PUTRAJAYA (Malaysia), Sept 25 (Bernama) &#8212; Malaysian Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin is set to reaffirm Malaysia\u2019s long-standing position on the question of Palestine and plight of the Rohingya in Rakhine state when delivering Malaysia&#8217;s national statement at the general debate of the 75th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on Sept 26.
