{"id":89005,"date":"2020-08-24T15:12:28","date_gmt":"2020-08-24T07:12:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=89005"},"modified":"2020-08-24T15:12:30","modified_gmt":"2020-08-24T07:12:30","slug":"parliament-visits-overseas-are-part-of-efforts-to-expand-oil-palm-market-ministry","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=89005","title":{"rendered":"Parliament: Visits overseas are part of efforts to expand oil palm market &#8211; Ministry"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>KUALA LUMPUR,&nbsp;Aug 24&nbsp;(NNN-BERNAMA) &#8212; The Ministry of Plantation Industries and Commodities (MPIC) said various efforts have been made to pave the way to&nbsp;export&nbsp;palm oil to new markets such as China\u2019s hinterlands, Central Asian countries, Balkan states, Eastern Europe, Caribbean islands and African countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The MPIC said this in a written reply to a question from\u00a0Datuk Seri Rohani Abdul Karim (GPS-Batang Lupar)\u00a0on the impact of the ministry\u2019s efforts to promote oil palm in the countries it had visited. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cDuring a visit to Ethiopia, one Malaysian company&nbsp;was offered a tender to export 27,000 tonnes of oil palm to the country,\u201d it said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Aside from promoting the nation\u2019s palm oil, the visits had also strengthened bilateral relations with the respective countries via&nbsp;existing&nbsp;bilateral&nbsp;cooperation frameworks to ease the acceptance of Malaysian palm oil in terms of getting the best export terms for&nbsp;the product.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe MPIC has also expanded efforts and initiatives with regards to the&nbsp;Malaysian Sustainable Palm Oil certification, as well as ongoing forest and biodiversity conservation measures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe have also lobbied palm oil-importing countries with regards to&nbsp;the positive aspects on&nbsp;the use of palm oil in nutritional and non-nutritional applications,\u201d it said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The visits had also mitigated&nbsp;anti-palm oil campaigns which had more or less affected the nation\u2019s palm oil trade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cEngagement sessions and presentation of the country\u2019s way forward, which is in line with Sustainable Development Goals, have&nbsp;restored the nation\u2019s palm oil image globally,\u201d the ministry said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>MPIC added that the efforts resulted in an increase in exports in 2019, where it rose by 10.8 per cent to 27.98 million tonnes from 25.23 million tonnes in 2018.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cExports of palm oil and palm oil-based products to India increased by 67 per cent from 2.67 million tonnes in 2018 to 4.46 million tonnes in 2019, while exports to European Union countries rose by 2.3 per cent to 3.89 million tonnes in 2019 compared to the previous year,\u201d it said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The ministry added that the rise in exports also had a positive impact on the price of crude palm oil, which stood at RM2,739 per tonne as at July 23, 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8212; NNN-BERNAMA<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>KUALA LUMPUR,&nbsp;Aug 24&nbsp;(NNN-BERNAMA) &#8212; The Ministry of Plantation Industries and Commodities (MPIC) said various efforts have been made to pave the way to&nbsp;export&nbsp;palm oil to new markets such as China\u2019s hinterlands, Central Asian countries, Balkan states, Eastern Europe, Caribbean islands and African countries.
