LABUAN, Aug 19 (NNN-BERNAMA) — British High Commissioner to Malaysia Charles Hay said the High Commission will work closely with\u00a0the local authority,\u00a0Labuan Corporation (Labuan Corp), to facilitate potential business activities and local tourism for both British investors and travellers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe are always very keen to look for opportunities all over Malaysia including in Labuan, despite not having much knowledge on whether any British businessmen are operating in the island.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cOf course, the oil and gas industry is very active here, and there are a lot of British companies involved in the oil and gas sector…I\u2019m sure there will be British companies operating here,\u201d he said at a press conference after touring the Labuan International Golf Club here, today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Hay said Labuan, with its history of a number of fallen British soldiers during the World War 2 is known to Britons, and that would greatly help to promote the island\u2019s tourism industry to them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cMy team at the High Commission and I are currently providing British travellers in Malaysia the relevant information to help them make decisions on their respective travel plans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Earlier, Hay and his team visited the Labuan War Cemetery, a Commonwealth World War 2 graveyard in Membedai, which was erected by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Labuan Corp chief executive officer Dr Fary Akmal Osman said a visit by a group foreign embassies to Labuan, which was planned early this year but was postponed due to the COVID-19, would be rescheduled before year-end.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
