{"id":88436,"date":"2020-08-19T16:20:04","date_gmt":"2020-08-19T08:20:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=88436"},"modified":"2020-08-19T20:22:59","modified_gmt":"2020-08-19T12:22:59","slug":"three-killed-in-earlier-rocket-attack-in-kabul-ministry","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=88436","title":{"rendered":"Three killed in earlier rocket attack in Kabul: ministry"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bssnews.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/Afghan-presidential-compound-hit-in-rocket-attack-on-capital.jpg\"><img src=\"http:\/\/www.bssnews.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/Afghan-presidential-compound-hit-in-rocket-attack-on-capital.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>KABUL, Aug 19 (NNN-AGENCIES) &#8212; A rocket attack that struck Kabul this<br>week as the city marked Afghanistan\u2019s independence day killed at least three people, including two members of President Ashraf Ghani\u2019s honour guard, officials said Wednesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fourteen rockets were fired into central Kabul on Tuesday as the country<br>marked the 101st anniversary of its independence, with one of the missiles<br>slamming into the compound of the famous Arg presidential palace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Interior ministry spokesman Tareq Arian said three people, including two<br>government employees, had been killed in the strike.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He did not specify who the employees were, but palace officials said they were members of Ghani\u2019s honour guard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another six honour guard members were wounded when the rocket hit the<br>palace compound shortly after Ghani had wrapped up his ceremonial duties Tuesday. The Arg Palace is located in a highly fortified area of the capital that also houses several embassies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Arian said 16 other people were also wounded in the rocket salvo,<br>including four children and a woman.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>No group has so far claimed the attack, which came as the Afghan<br>government and the Taliban are poised to begin peace talks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ghani\u2019s swearing-in ceremony on March 9 was also interrupted by rocket<br>fire near the palace. No serious injuries were reported at the time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In August 2018, multiple rockets were fired in Kabul, including at the<br>presidential palace, where Ghani was making a speech.
