KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 11 (NNN-BERNAMA) — Malaysia’s number of new COVID-19 positive cases returned to a single digit with nine new cases reported today involving five imported cases and four local transmissions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said this brings the cumulative figure of positive cases to 9,103 and the number of active cases with infectivity to 169.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Of the nine new cases reported, five were imported cases which were contracted overseas involving three Malaysians and two non-citizens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“The five imported cases are from Japan, India, Pakistan, New Zealand and Singapore,” he said in a statement today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dr Noor Hisham said all\u00a0four local transmission cases involved non-citizens, three of whom were detected from the\u00a0Bukit Jalil Immigration Detention Depot\u00a0screening and have been deported while\u00a0one case was\u00a0a\u00a0referral screening case\u00a0at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Sabah.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said two positive cases of COVID-19 are being treated at the intensive care unit (ICU) and non required ventilator support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“No increase in COVID-19-related deaths were reported, keeping the death toll at 125,” he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dr Noor Hisham said six more patients have recovered and this brings the cumulative number of recoveries to 8,809 (96.7 per cent of the total number of cases).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Meanwhile, he said no new cases linked to the Sivagangga Patient Under Investigation (PUI) cluster and Kurau cluster were reported today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As such, he said the number of positive cases from the clusters remains unchanged at 45 and five cases respectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dr Noor Hisham said 5,645 individuals from the Sivagangga PUI Cluster and 180 from the Kurau cluster were screened.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Active case detection and close contact tracing activities involving the two clusters would continue to be conducted, he added.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
