KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 5 (NNN-BERNAMA) — All Malaysians\u00a0in Lebanon are\u00a0reported safe, said\u00a0Foreign Minister Hishammuddin Hussein.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said this was confirmed by the Malaysian Embassy in Beirut in its initial report.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At around midnight Malaysian time Tuesday, the Lebanese \u00a0capital Beirut \u00a0witnessed a fire followed by a massive blast at a warehouse at its port, where explosive materials were believed to have been stored.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The blast triggered widespread destruction across the city and left at least 70 people dead and more than 3,000 injured. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Hishammuddin said the embassy had also advised Malaysians residing in the country to remain indoors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cMalaysia stands together in grief as our thoughts and prayers accompany the strong people of Lebanon. We stand ready to support in any way we can,\u201d he said in his latest Twitter post.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Malaysia is part of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (Unifil) for peacekeeping duties in southern Lebanon and it was feared some of the team members might have been Beirut when the blast occurred.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
No reports are as yet available whether there were Malaysian ships at the port or ships having Malaysian crew there at the time. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
