KUALA LUMPUR, July 30 (NNN-BERNAMA) —\u00a0Former Malaysian prime minister Datuk Seri Najib\u00a0Tun Razak\u00a0has appealed\u00a0against his conviction and sentence on seven charges\u00a0of criminal breach of\u00a0trust (CBT), money laundering and abuse of position involving US$ 9.88 million (RM42 million) of\u00a0SRC International Sdn Bhd funds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Pekan Member of Parliament filed a notice of appeal through Messrs. Shafee and Co. at the Criminal High Court Registry Thursday afternoon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
His lawyer, Muhammad Farhan Muhammad Shafee, confirmed the matter when contacted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI can confirm it is filed today,\u201d he said in a text message. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Najib is currently out on an US$471,684 (RM2 million, US$1 = RM4.24) bail in two sureties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On Tuesday, Najib was sentenced to 12 years’ jail and a RM210 million fine after he was found guilty of all seven charges related to the misappropriation of RM42 million of SRC funds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He was sentenced to 10 years’ jail on each of the three counts of CBT and each of the three counts of money laundering and 12 years’ jail and a RM210 million fine, in default five years’ jail, in the case of abuse of position.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
