{"id":83512,"date":"2020-07-15T16:57:31","date_gmt":"2020-07-15T08:57:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=83512"},"modified":"2020-07-15T17:10:55","modified_gmt":"2020-07-15T09:10:55","slug":"chinese-coast-guard-navy-vessels-no-longer-encroaching-malaysian-waters-hishammuddin","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=83512","title":{"rendered":"Chinese coast guard, navy vessels no longer encroaching Malaysian waters &#8211; Hishammuddin"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.namnewsnetwork.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/Malaysia-Hishammuddin.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-83513\" width=\"202\" height=\"134\" srcset=\"http:\/\/namnewsnetwork.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/Malaysia-Hishammuddin.jpg 640w, http:\/\/namnewsnetwork.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/Malaysia-Hishammuddin-300x200.jpg 300w, http:\/\/namnewsnetwork.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/Malaysia-Hishammuddin-555x370.jpg 555w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 202px) 100vw, 202px\" \/><figcaption>Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin <\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>KUALA LUMPUR, July 15 (NNN-BERNAMA) &#8212; Chinese Coast Guard and Navy vessels have not been\u00a0seen encroaching\u00a0into Malaysian waters of late,\u00a0Foreign Minister Datuk Seri\u00a0Hishammuddin\u00a0Tun Hussein said.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said bilateral ties between both countries have been strengthened further in the 100 days since he was appointed to helm Wisma Putra.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOne area I\u2019ve had to work on since helming&nbsp;Wisma Putra&nbsp;is to improve Malaysia\u2019s ties with China, India, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates\u2026&nbsp;so when we talk about South China Sea,&nbsp;of course the relationship with China is important.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe latest, in the 100 days of helming&nbsp;Wisma Putra, Chinese vessels have not been seen in our waters, so how did we manage this?&nbsp;This is between us and the Chinese leadership&#8230;&nbsp;my stand is very clear, we will not compromise on our sovereignty,\u201d he told a media conference in Parliament today.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He was responding to the Auditor-General\u2019s Report 2018 Series 3 which, among others, revealed that&nbsp;Chinese Coast Guard vessels were detected to have encroached into Malaysian&nbsp;waters 89 times from 2016 to 2019 and their presence had been identified to be related to claims over the South China Sea, especially the Beting Patinggi Ali area (BPA).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hishammuddin&nbsp;admitted that issues concerning the South China Sea were not just confined to the presence of Chinese and United States\u2019&nbsp;vessels, but also involved territorial claims by fellow ASEAN&nbsp;nations.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cEven if you resolve the dotted line with China and all this posturing between these superpowers, you still need to resolve the overlapping claims with our neighbours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;But my personal fears are (concerning) incidents&nbsp;and accidents in the sea that can end up going to war.
