SHAH ALAM, July 11 (NNN-BERNAMA) —\u00a0The\u00a0late Prof Emeritus Tan Sri Dr Khoo Kay Kim is a true symbol of Malaysia’s spirit\u00a0of unity, said the Sultan of Selangor\u00a0Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a statement from the Selangor Palace, the Sultan was also cited expressing his admiration for\u00a0the spirit as well as the efforts demonstrated by Khoo\u00a0who had always\u00a0prioritised\u00a0accurate and\u00a0valid historical facts in his work, despite the attempts\u00a0made to distort them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sultan Sharafuddin\u00a0granted an audience to\u00a0the late\u00a0historian’s wife Puan Sri Rathi Khoo and their children Eddin and Rubin Khoo\u00a0on July 9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHis Highness who had known Khoo since the early 80\u2019s, also expressed his appreciation to the late academician for his contributions through his views and ideas in various fields, particularly in local history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis includes (Khoo’s efforts) to revive the spirit of loving history among young people as well as in the development of the local sports arena especially football,\u201d the statement read.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It added that Sultan Sharafuddin is hopeful that the contributions of historians like the late Khoo will continue to be remembered by all Malaysians, irrespective of their race.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His Highness, however, expressed his unhappiness over the action of certain parties who were not appreciative of Khoo’s contributions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSultan Sharafuddin also wondered why there are still certain politicians who have taken for granted the importance of country’s racial history as emphasised by the late historian,” it said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the meeting, Rathi expressed her gratitude to Sultan Sharafuddin for honouring her husband by renaming Jalan Semangat in Petaling Jaya, Selangor, Jalan Prof Khoo Kay Kim.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
