{"id":82530,"date":"2020-07-08T17:30:10","date_gmt":"2020-07-08T09:30:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=82530"},"modified":"2020-07-08T17:43:44","modified_gmt":"2020-07-08T09:43:44","slug":"penang-initiates-covid-19-safety-accreditation-to-strengthen-tourism-sector","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=82530","title":{"rendered":"Penang initiates COVID-19 safety accreditation to strengthen tourism sector"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"642\" src=\"http:\/\/www.namnewsnetwork.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/penang-rapid-bus-1024x642.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-73561\" srcset=\"http:\/\/namnewsnetwork.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/penang-rapid-bus-1024x642.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/namnewsnetwork.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/penang-rapid-bus-300x188.jpg 300w, http:\/\/namnewsnetwork.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/penang-rapid-bus-768x481.jpg 768w, http:\/\/namnewsnetwork.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/penang-rapid-bus.jpg 1280w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>GEORGE TOWN, July 8 (NNN-BERNAMA) &#8212; The Penang government\u00a0has initiated a COVID-19 safety accreditation programme to boost compliance with strict hygiene and safety standards in the tourism industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The state is the first in Malaysia to introduce this effort involving hotels, tourist attractions and shopping malls.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a statement today, Penang Tourism, Arts, Culture and Heritage (PETACH) Committee chairman, Yeoh Soon Hin&nbsp;said the main objective of the accreditation programme was&nbsp;to put emphasis on the importance of safety and hygiene including following the strict standard operating procedures (SOPs) to regain travellers\u2019 confidence in the long term.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis accreditation is issued to tourism industry establishments that meet and adhere to strict hygiene and safety standards set by the local&nbsp;authorities, namely PETACH, State Health Department&nbsp;(JKNPP), Penang Island City Council&nbsp;(MBPP), Majlis Bandaran Seberang Perai (MBSP)&nbsp;and Penang Global Tourism (PGT),\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He explained that&nbsp;these authorities would first&nbsp;carry out a thorough audit to ensure all standards were&nbsp;fulfilled before validating them to receive the COVID-19 safety accreditation from PETACH.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThose who have fulfilled the COVID-19 safety accreditation standards&nbsp;will be given the official certification mark or logo to be displayed at their premises and for use in advertising and promotional materials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cJKNPP, MBPP, MBSP, PETACH and&nbsp;PGT will carry out continuous checks on those which have received the accreditation to ensure the standards are met and maintained,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis initiative &nbsp;is also aligned with the&nbsp;state\u2019s&nbsp;direction to promote responsible tourism among the tourism players and&nbsp;visitors, and&nbsp;to educate the public as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWith the&nbsp;industry\u2019s&nbsp;transition towards the new norm, these preparations and practices will&nbsp;be key to accelerating the&nbsp;tourism economy recovery efforts,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All relevant documents including the application forms can be downloaded from&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/penanglawancovid19.com\/accreditation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">https:\/\/penanglawancovid19.com\/accreditation<\/a>&nbsp;or those interested to participate can submit their application via&nbsp;email to&nbsp;<a href=\"mailto:covid19accreditation@penangglobaltourism.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">covid19accreditation@penangglobaltourism.com<\/a>&nbsp;for approval&nbsp;or contact the secretariat at 04-264 3456 for further details.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>GEORGE TOWN, July 8 (NNN-BERNAMA) &#8212; The Penang government\u00a0has initiated a COVID-19 safety accreditation programme to boost compliance with strict hygiene and safety standards in the tourism industry.
