{"id":81185,"date":"2020-06-30T11:20:01","date_gmt":"2020-06-30T03:20:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=81185"},"modified":"2020-06-30T11:20:53","modified_gmt":"2020-06-30T03:20:53","slug":"us-unrest-four-men-charged-for-trying-to-pull-down-statue-outside-white-house","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=81185","title":{"rendered":"US unrest: Four men charged for trying to pull down statue outside White House"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bssnews.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/Four-men-charged-for-trying-to-pull-down-statue-outside-White-House.jpg\"><img src=\"http:\/\/www.bssnews.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/Four-men-charged-for-trying-to-pull-down-statue-outside-White-House.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>WASHINGTON, June 30 (NNN-AGENCIES) &#8212; Four men have been charged for attempting to remove a statue of former President Andrew Jackson from outside the White House as part of anti-racism protests in the United States.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>President Donald Trump, who is trying to position himself as a standard-bearer for \u201claw and order\u201d with less than five months to go before November\u2019s presidential election, also tweeted calls by police to identify more than a dozen other demonstrators who took part in the action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A group of protesters attacked the statue of former President Johnson, a defender of slavery who led the United States from 1865 to 1869, which stands in Lafayette Park next to the White House.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They wrapped ropes around the monument and tried to knock it down.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Based on video footage of the scene, four were identified tying or pulling the ropes, or passing a hammer to another demonstrator.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Aged between 20 and 47, they were charged with \u201cdestruction of federal property,\u201d a charge punishable by one to 10 years in prison.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One of them was arrested and then presented before a judge, while the other three were named but have not yet been apprehended, the Washington prosecutor\u2019s office said in a statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThese charges should serve as a warning to those who choose to desecrate the statues and monuments that adorn our nation\u2019s capital: your violent behavior and criminal conduct will not be tolerated,\u201d wrote Acting US Attorney Michael R.
