{"id":79634,"date":"2020-06-19T10:54:18","date_gmt":"2020-06-19T02:54:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=79634"},"modified":"2020-06-19T17:27:48","modified_gmt":"2020-06-19T09:27:48","slug":"india-reacts-to-chinas-claim-on-galwan-valleys-sovereignty-says-exaggerated-and-untenable","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=79634","title":{"rendered":"India reacts to China\u2019s claim on Galwan Valley\u2019s sovereignty, says \u201cexaggerated and untenable&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bssnews.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/galwan.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.bssnews.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/galwan.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"594\" height=\"403\"\/><\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>NEW DELHI, June 19 (NNN-AGENCIES) &#8212; India reacted to China\u2019s claim that \u201csovereignty of the Galwan Valley area in Ladakh belonged to China,\u201d saying it was an \u201cexaggerated and untenable claim\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian at a media briefing on Wednesday, a day after the armies of the two countries were engaged in a deadly face-off, claimed that the \u201csovereignty of the Galwan Valley area in Ladakh always belonged to China\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson\u2019s claim prompted India to issue an immediate response by official spokesperson of India\u2019s External Affairs Ministry Anurag Srivastava, refuting the Beijing\u2019s claim.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anurag referred to the phone conversation between India\u2019s External Affairs Minister and his Chinese counterpart on recent developments in Ladakh when both sides had \u201cagreed that the overall situation should be handled in a responsible manner and that the understandings reached between Senior Commanders on June 6 should be implemented sincerely\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMaking exaggerated and untenable claims is contrary to this understanding,\u201d the India\u2019s External Affairs Ministry statement read.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Monday\u2019s skirmishes between the Indian and Chinese troops in Galwan Valley had left 20 Indian soldiers dead and 76 more injured including 18 with serious wounds, according to media reports quoting official sources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Indian army officials claimed that 43 Chinese were killed or seriously injured, citing radio intercepts and other intelligence although the Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson in his media briefing did not provide any figure of casualties from Chinese side.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Earlier on Wednesday, Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar told his counterpart Wang Yi in a phone conversation that the Chinese side\u2019s \u201cpre-meditated and planned action\u201d was behind the violence and casualties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said, \u201cThis unprecedented development will have a serious impact on the bilateral relationship and China had to reassess its actions and take corrective steps\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Besides, Wang, according to the Chinese foreign ministry, said the \u201cIndian side must not misjudge the current situation and must not underestimate China\u2019s firm determination to safeguard our territorial sovereignty\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Wang reiterated China\u2019s accusations that Indian troops had triggered the clash on June 15 by crossing the LAC, and said India must investigate its troops for the action. &#8212; NNN-AGENCIES<br><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>NEW DELHI, June 19 (NNN-AGENCIES) &#8212; India reacted to China\u2019s claim that \u201csovereignty of the Galwan Valley area in Ladakh belonged to China,\u201d saying it was an \u201cexaggerated and untenable claim\u201d.
