{"id":79348,"date":"2020-06-17T13:35:05","date_gmt":"2020-06-17T05:35:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=79348"},"modified":"2020-06-17T13:54:48","modified_gmt":"2020-06-17T05:54:48","slug":"mccc-urges-govt-to-promote-malaysia-aggressively-as-choice-fdi-destination","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=79348","title":{"rendered":"MCCC urges Govt to promote Malaysia aggressively as choice FDI destination"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h5>By Voon Miaw Ping<br><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>KUALA LUMPUR, June 17&nbsp;(NNN-BERNAMA) &#8212; The Malaysian government has been urged to increase efforts to aggressively woo investors from China, now that Malaysia has begun its process of economic&nbsp;recovery following the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Malaysia-China Chamber of Commerce (MCCC) vice president Kevin Siah said although many economies worldwide were badly affected by the COVID-19 outbreak, the pandemic brought new opportunities as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe can see at the beginning of the outbreak and when the lockdown was imposed (in China), global supply chains were badly disrupted because many production of these crucial products are based in China.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSo, I believe post-COVID, many manufacturers will look to diversify their industry outside China. The ASEAN region is definitely the ideal location, and Malaysia should look at this opportunity,\u201d he told Bernama in &nbsp;an&nbsp;interview.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin had launched the National Economic Recovery Plan \u2013 a fast-paced step to rebuild and revitalise the economy in the short term&nbsp;\u2013 early this month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Known as PENJANA, the RM35-billion plan include various initiatives and programmes aimed at attracting more foreign direct investment&nbsp;(FDI).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To make Malaysia more attractive to investors, the government is giving manufacturing companies that chose to relocate to Malaysia a zero tax rate for 10 or 15 years depending on the amount of capital investment made.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is also giving a 100 per cent tax allowance for five years to encourage existing companies to relocate their overseas facilities back to Malaysia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Siah said despite facing competition from neighbouring Vietnam, Cambodia and Indonesia, Malaysia is in an advantageous position for these investors in terms of competitive&nbsp;wages, knowledge-based workforce, investor-friendly policies,&nbsp;and a conducive and stable business environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe need to be proactive in putting these measures into immediate action,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Siah also added that the International Trade and Industry Ministry and the&nbsp;Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry can aid in enhancing&nbsp;the current tourism FDI to the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt can be immediate revenue for the country,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8212; NNN-BERNAMA<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Voon Miaw Ping KUALA LUMPUR, June 17&nbsp;(NNN-BERNAMA) &#8212; The Malaysian government has been urged to increase efforts to aggressively woo investors from China, now that Malaysia has begun its process of economic&nbsp;recovery following the COVID-19 pandemic.
