PUTRAJAYA, May 27 (NNN-BERNAMA) — Malaysia\u2019s efforts in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic continue to yield encouraging results when 15 new positive cases reported today, the lowest ever recorded since the implementation of the Movement Control Order (MCO).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the total number of COVID-19 positive cases currently stood at 7,619 with the total number of active cases was at 1,421.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cPlease note that out of the 15 new cases reported today, six are imported cases. Of the nine cases of local transmission, four involve foreign nationals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cFive other cases are local infection among Malaysians,\u201d he told a daily press conference on the COVID-19 here today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
No deaths were reported today and the number of fatalities remained at 115, he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The lowest number of COVID-19 positive cases was previously recorded on May 12 at 16.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dr Noor Hisham said Malaysia contributed 0.14 per cent of the total number of COVID-19 positive cases worldwide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe increase in COVID-19 positive cases reported over the past few days is due to the detection of COVID-19 positive cases at Immigration detention centres and other active clusters involving foreign nationals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThis is following the action of the government’s targeted approach to curb the spread of the COVID-19 infection,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said the decline in local transmission cases was in line with Ministry of Health\u2019s projections and the results of public health action implemented a month ago during the implementation of the Movement Control Order (MCO) and followed by the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
