2,403 COVID-19 deaths have been recorded on the Continent<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

ABUJA, May 14 (NNN-AGENCIES) — Africa\u2019s Coronavirus (Covid-19) cases have reached 69,577 as at May 13.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Africa Center for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) in a tweet said \u201c\u2026 As of 13 May, 2020 pm East African Time) 53 @_AfricanUnion Member States Reporting 69_578 cases.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

CDC also announced in the tweet that some 2,403 Covid-19 deaths have been recorded on the Continent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, the number of recoveries has increased to 23,978. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

TANZANIA: The US embassy in Tanzania has warned that there is a risk of “exponential growth” of Covid-19 cases in the country, at a time when the government is not releasing data on new cases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It added that hospitals in the main city, Dar es Salaam, were “overwhelmed” and that the chance of contracting the virus was “extremely high”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On April 29, the last day official data was released, there were 509 cases, with 21 deaths. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

NIGER has further relaxed coronavirus restrictions, allowing mosques and churches to reopen from Wednesday after nearly two months of closure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A dusk-to-dawn curfew in the capital, Niamey, has also been lifted. But hotels, airports and land borders remain closed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Niger has confirmed a total of 854 coronavirus cases..<\/p>\n\n\n\n

SENEGAL reopened places of worship on Tuesday and reduced the hours of its night-time curfew. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

SOUTH SUDAN: Health officials in South Sudan have for the first time confirmed cases of coronavirus in camps for people displaced by conflict.

Two people have become infected in a camp in the capital, Juba, and one in Bentiu in the north of the country.

Years of conflict have left South Sudan with one of the least equipped health care systems on the African continent.

There are 194 confirmed cases of the virus in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

SOMALIA: Flights carrying the mild stimulant khat, also known as miraa, have been banned from entering Somalia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In March, the government of Somalia banned international flights, including khat planes, as part of its efforts to contain coronavirus. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

LESOTHO has confirmed its first case of coronavirus – becoming the last country in Africa to record the virus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The single case resulted from tests done on 81 travellers from South Africa and Saudi Arabia, the health ministry said in a statement. — NNN-AGENCIES
