NAIROBI, April 4 (NNN-AGENCIES) — A six-year-old has died from the coronavirus as cases in Kenya stand at 122 after 12 more people tested positive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a briefing, Health CAS Mercy Mwangangi said the young patient was at the Kenyatta National Hospital had an underlying health condition. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

She said that the latest patients were 11 Kenyans and a Somali citizen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Separately, a group of Kenyan pastors have asked the government to include churches in the list of “essential services” to allow them to remain open as the country battles the Covid-19 outbreak.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The preachers representing churches in Makueni country in eastern Kenya, say faith is the \u201cbest way to fight the unseen enemy\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They want to be allowed to hold Sunday services in open grounds, while adhering to the proposed one-metre distance between people to prevent infection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The government has banned public gatherings and police officers have been enforcing the ban.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the pastors, Nicholas Kyule, was quoted by Citizen TV as saying that the church was the \u201cbest place for hope and resilience\u201d during this time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another, Titus Uswii, was quoted in the Star Newspaper as saying that the country \u201cmay be involved in a futile exercise\u201d as long as churches remain closed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Kenyan government imposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew on March 27, but exempted those in what it termed “essential services”, which included health workers, security officers, the media, food dealers and transporters among others. — NNN-AGENCIES
