KUALA LUMPUR, April 1 (NNN-BERNAMA) — Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk\u00a0Saifuddin Abdullah was saddened to hear\u00a0the\u00a0passing of former Director of the Third World Network & South Centre, Martin Khor Kok Peng today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In his tweet today, Saifuddin said Khor was a distinguished journalist and economist who had once served on the consultative council at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cDeeply saddened to hear of the passing of an old friend, Martin Khor. He was a distinguished journalist, economist, former Director of the Third World Network & South Centre, and once served on my consultative council at @MalaysiaMFA. He will be dearly missed,\u201d he tweeted. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Khor, passed away this morning after battling with cancer for several years. He was 68.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Born in 1951 in Penang, he was a prominent social activist mainly in consumer rights and environmental issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He taught at Universiti Sains Malaysia and played a leading role in the Third World Network before heading the South Centre in Geneva.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Khor, who was a columnist for The Star from 1978 to 2019 leaves behind a wife and daughter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
His wake will be held at the funeral parlour in Mount Erskine today and the funeral will be held tomorrow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
