{"id":61650,"date":"2020-02-12T10:10:36","date_gmt":"2020-02-12T02:10:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=61650"},"modified":"2020-02-12T10:10:38","modified_gmt":"2020-02-12T02:10:38","slug":"kenya-fbi-partner-on-first-anti-terror-task-force-outside-us","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=61650","title":{"rendered":"Kenya, FBI partner on first anti-terror task force outside US"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignwide\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ghanaweb.com\/GhanaHomePage\/africa\/Kenya-FBI-partner-on-first-anti-terror-task-force-outside-US-862642?gallery=1\"><img src=\"https:\/\/cdn.ghanaweb.com\/imagelib\/pics\/925\/92590074.295.jpg\" alt=\"US President Donald Trump and President Uhuru Kenyatta meet at the White House, Washington DC,  PSCU\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align:center\"><strong><em>US President Donald Trump and President Uhuru Kenyatta at the White House<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>WASHINGTON, Feb 12 (NNN-AGENCIES) &#8212; Kenya has been chosen as the site for the first US-funded Joint Terrorism Task Force to be located outside the United States, the State Department said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is a partner in this initiative to build the investigative capacity of a country \u201con the frontlines of terrorism,\u201d the State Department said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The announcement follows Kenya&#8217;s President Uhuru Kenyatta&#8217;s meeting with President Donald Trump at White House last week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The two leaders&#8217; discussion had focused on another prestigious designation of Kenya as the first sub-Saharan country to begin negotiations on a bilateral trade deal with the United States.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A select group of 42 Kenyan investigators will take part in an intensive 12-week counter-terrorism training course at the FBI Academy in the US state of Virginia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Methods used by US-based joint anti-terrorism task forces will be imparted to the Kenyan team to enable it to respond to sensitive counter-terrorism intelligence shared with the Kenyan government, the State Department said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe investigators will be trained and equipped to investigate all terrorism matters deemed of significant importance to Kenya\u2019s National Security Council,\u201d the US side noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Upon completion of the course, the Kenyan officers will return home, where they will be assisted by an FBI Special Agent mentor, the announcement added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The move to create the Kenya-based Joint Terrorism Task Force took shape following Al-Shabaab&#8217;s attack 13 months ago on the DusitD2 Hotel in Nairobi, the US noted.
