{"id":60239,"date":"2020-01-29T17:17:21","date_gmt":"2020-01-29T09:17:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=60239"},"modified":"2020-01-29T17:17:23","modified_gmt":"2020-01-29T09:17:23","slug":"nadma-to-set-up-a-national-risk-register","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=60239","title":{"rendered":"NADMA to set up a national risk register"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h5>By Kamarul Irwan Alias and Siti Fauziah Hasan<br><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>PUTRAJAYA, \u00a0Jan\u00a0 29 (NNN-BERNAMA) &#8212; A\u00a0National Risk Register (NRR) will be developed to provide an assessment of potential impact of disaster risks to the country and\u00a0 for use as an instrument in decision-making process, such as for development projects, disaster mitigation programmes and rescue operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Deputy Prime Minister Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail said the NRR would be developed by the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She said the register would include information on disaster recovery trends, population and economic activities that are at risk, such as chemical plants,&nbsp; to see the impact, should disaster hit the affected area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe want to know the impact or risk of a disaster, and through the NRR document, we will use it as an instrument in the&nbsp;decision-making process, and we will also&nbsp;strengthen the National Disaster Control Center (NDCC), which are among strategies to empower&nbsp;NADMA&nbsp;as a disaster reference center,\u201d she&nbsp;said in a recent interview with Bernama and RTM at her office here recently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr Wan Azizah, who is also the minister responsible for NADMA, said the agency has&nbsp;outlined eight more focus areas to be implemented this year,&nbsp; including disaster risk reduction,&nbsp; as the thrust of the country\u2019s development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She said the government would ensure disaster-related policies were taken into account in the formulation of the country\u2019s policies, such as the 12th Malaysian Plan and at ministry and department levels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>NADMA would also focus on coordinating low-cost and high-impact prevention and mitigation projects with the cooperation of government agencies at all levels ,&nbsp;she added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Apart from that, she said, NADMA would also focus on integrating science and technology in disaster management; strengthening the Special Malaysian Disaster Assistance and Rescue (SMART); ensuring inclusive disaster management by taking into account those with special needs; community empowerment in disaster management; strengthening logistics management and increasing its (NADMA) at international level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The deputy prime minister also touched on the use of drones&nbsp;by the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM), which she said is a rescue aid &nbsp;in disaster management and its use&nbsp; would be expanded throughout the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So far, only three states, namely Perak, Johor and Penang, had two drones each, she added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe&nbsp;drones can be used, for example, for rescue operation at sea, where the drones can be used to send life jackets to the victims,\u201d she said, adding that the drones could lift weight of five kg to 25 kg.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr Wan Azizah also said the informed that construction of the Southern Regional Civil Defence Training Center (Pulapas)&nbsp; would be ready and it would be handed over to APM in April.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The APM courses this year will also involve other countries, such as&nbsp;Qatar, Jordan, Bosnia and&nbsp;Pakistan, which are members of the&nbsp;International Civil Defence Organisation (ICDO), she added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8212; NNN-BERNAMA \u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Kamarul Irwan Alias and Siti Fauziah Hasan PUTRAJAYA, \u00a0Jan\u00a0 29 (NNN-BERNAMA) &#8212; A\u00a0National Risk Register (NRR) will be developed to provide an assessment of potential impact of disaster risks to the country and\u00a0 for use as an instrument in decision-making process, such as for development projects, disaster mitigation programmes and rescue operations.
