{"id":59595,"date":"2020-01-24T09:19:00","date_gmt":"2020-01-24T01:19:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=59595"},"modified":"2020-01-24T09:19:02","modified_gmt":"2020-01-24T01:19:02","slug":"un-rapporteur-seeks-mounting-pressure-on-unsc-over-rohingya-atrocities","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=59595","title":{"rendered":"UN rapporteur seeks mounting pressure on UNSC over Rohingya atrocities"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bssnews.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/Photo-Courtesy.jpeg\"><img src=\"http:\/\/www.bssnews.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/Photo-Courtesy-696x365.jpeg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>DHAKA, Jan 24 (NNN-BSS) &#8211;\u2013 UN Special Rapporteur on Myanmar\u2019s rights<br>situation Yanghee Lee proposed mounting pressure on UN Security Council<br>(UNSC) for exposing to punitive actions perpetrators of Rohingya genocide<br>since the council so far failed to effectively denounce the culprits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cUnfortunately the UN Security Council (UNSC) failed to refer the situation<br>of Myanmar to international Criminal Court,\u201d she told a press conference<br>before ending her final trip to Bangladesh as the UN rapporteur as she nearly wrapped a six-year assignment to record Rohingya atrocity evidences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Yanghee added: \u201cI think we must continue to put pressure on UN Security<br>Council on its failure to do this.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She bluntly attributed the UNSC failure to China and Russia saying \u201cit is<br>really regretful\u201d adding \u201cI\u2019ve said this many times that it\u2019s shameful for<br>the (two) states to not do anything (against human rights violation)\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Yanghee, a psychology professor by background currently associated with the South Korea\u2019s National Human Rights Commission as well, said she was now set to submit her report to the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>UN had assigned her as its Special Rapporteur on the Situation of Human<br>Rights in Myanmar in 2014 but during the period Myanmar never allowed her to enter into its territory forcing her to extract the evidence from Rohingyas fled to Bangladesh and other sources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Yanghee said Myanmar repeatedly denied her request after the outbreak of<br>Rohingya influx, prompting her to visit Bangladesh several times to gauge the situation in bordering Rakhine State.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI am disappointed.
