{"id":59156,"date":"2020-01-20T14:32:25","date_gmt":"2020-01-20T06:32:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=59156"},"modified":"2020-01-20T14:41:24","modified_gmt":"2020-01-20T06:41:24","slug":"jordans-lower-house-endorses-bill-to-scrap-import-of-israeli-gas","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=59156","title":{"rendered":"Jordan&#8217;s Lower House Endorses Bill To Scrap Import Of Israeli Gas"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>AMMAN, Jan 20 (NNN-PETRA) &#8211; Jordan&#8217;s Lower House, on Sunday, endorsed a draft law that bans the import of Israeli gas to the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The lawmakers approved referring the bill to the government as a matter of urgency, Lower House Speaker, Atef Tarawneh, said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He added that, as Jordan and Israel signed a peace deal in 1994, the endorsement of legislation should be in accordance with the Constitution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Lower House has repeatedly called on the government not to import Israeli gas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Early in 2019, the state-run National Electric Power Company (NEPCO), started importing gas via Noble Energy from Israel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The deal would have met 40 percent of Jordan&#8217;s gas needs and save about 600 million U.S. dollars every year, according to NEPCO.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Under the agreement, Noble Energy will provide gas worth 15 billion dollars to Jordan for a period of 15 years, or 300 million cubic feet on a daily basis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Figures show Jordan&#8217;s 97 percent of its energy needs relies on imports.&#8211; NNN-PETRA  <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>AMMAN, Jan 20 (NNN-PETRA) &#8211; Jordan&#8217;s Lower House, on Sunday, endorsed a draft law that bans the import of Israeli gas to the country.
