{"id":54653,"date":"2019-12-14T10:37:55","date_gmt":"2019-12-14T02:37:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=54653"},"modified":"2019-12-14T10:37:57","modified_gmt":"2019-12-14T02:37:57","slug":"clashes-break-out-in-central-london-after-conservative-victory","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=54653","title":{"rendered":"Clashes break out in central London after Conservative victory"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img src=\"https:\/\/i2-prod.mirror.co.uk\/incoming\/article21094761.ece\/ALTERNATES\/s615b\/0_Anti-Government-Protesters-Clash-With-Police-In-Whitehall.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align:center\">Anti-Tory and pro-Brexit protesters clash outside Parliament <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>LONDON, Dec\u00a014\u00a0(NNN-AGENCIES)\u00a0&#8212;<\/strong>Clashes broke out in central London on Friday as hundreds of protesters took to Downing Street to &#8220;defy Tory rule&#8221; after British Prime Minister Boris Johnson&#8217;s election victory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A heavy police presence was seen close to the Cenotaph in Whitehall, which was cordoned off as clashes broke out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Videos on social media showed a huge police presence trying to contain the crowds, who could be seen scuffling with officers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One showed police with batons drawn at the bottom of Parliament Street in central London, striking out at people as they warned &#8220;get back or you will get hit.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another video showed a flare being set off as police reportedly separated anti-Tory protestors from Brexit supporters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Eyewitnesses at the scene described the protests as &#8220;chaotic&#8221;. At least one demonstrator&#8217;s face was bloodied during the brief exchange, the Guardian reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Demonstrators carried placards with the slogans &#8220;No to Boris Johnson&#8221;, &#8220;No to Racism and Defy Tory Rule&#8221; and let off red smoke flares during angry protests. They walked at speed from outside Downing Street to Trafalgar Square.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Many others travelled down Whitehall before moving toward Millbank and Horseferry Road, shouting &#8220;the people, united, we will never be defeated.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They pounded the window of a double decker bus as it was forced to stop its journey toward Victoria in central London.
