{"id":51841,"date":"2019-11-24T13:55:49","date_gmt":"2019-11-24T05:55:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=51841"},"modified":"2019-11-24T14:03:20","modified_gmt":"2019-11-24T06:03:20","slug":"orthodox-jews-opening-up-their-wallets-for-trump-in-2020","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=51841","title":{"rendered":"Orthodox Jews Opening Up Their Wallets For Trump In 2020"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>NEW YORK, Nov 24 (NNN-AGENCIES) &#8211; Hanukkah came a month early for Donald Trump this year. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Though he polls as generally unpopular with Jews and has even been accused of making anti-Semitic remarks in office, New York\u2019s Orthodox enclaves are kvelling over the president \u2014 and even raised $4 million for him, at a Midtown banquet last week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201c[He\u2019s] the first Hasidic president,\u201d gushed Yossi Garelik, an Orthodox rabbi in Crown Heights, who voted against Trump in 2016.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Literally right before he went into office when Obama abstained at the U.N. in Dec, 2016, jeopardising Israeli settlements in the West Bank, Trump said, &#8220;Jan 20, everything will change.&#8221; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He is not alone. In 2018, 91% of Orthodox Jews rated President Trump\u2019s job performance as \u201csatisfactory\u201d or \u201cvery satisfactory\u201d \u2014 with 82% saying they would support him again in 2020, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amimagazine.org\/2018\/08\/01\/trump-and-the-orthodox-jewish-community-an-independent-poll-by-ami-magazine\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Ami Magazine, a Jewish weekly,<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is in opposition to less-religious Jews, 71% of whom voted for Hillary Clinton, according to the Pew Research Centre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And the Orthodox are not just opening their hearts to the Republican president, they\u2019re opening their wallets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Trump attended a $25,000-per-couple luncheon last week, at a Midtown hotel, where 400 moneyed Orthodox machers raised at least $4 million for the America First SuperPAC. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One guest, Brooklyn real estate mogul, Rubin Schron, is a longtime Dem donor \u2014 and benefactor to Joe Biden\u2019s failed presidential campaign in 1987.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMany of the people who attended were Chuck Schumer donors,\u201d Kelly Sadler, an America First spokeswoman told The Post, noting the political converts at the event. \u201cWe screened all of the people in attendance, and we were surprised to see how many have given before to Democrats, but never a Republican.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cPeople were standing up on their chairs chanting \u2026 eight more years,\u201d she added.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOver the years I haven\u2019t seen any galvanised, concentrated effort for a political candidate like this,\u201d Rabbi YY Jacobson, who introduced the president at the lunch told The Post. \u201cThey are very moved by the leadership he\u2019s shown in security and defence against terror and the support of Israel.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Orthodox leaders say they\u2019ve embraced Trump because of his pro-Israel policies, including voiding the Iran nuclear deal.
