{"id":51274,"date":"2019-11-19T20:31:05","date_gmt":"2019-11-19T12:31:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=51274"},"modified":"2019-11-19T20:39:46","modified_gmt":"2019-11-19T12:39:46","slug":"malaysias-forest-resources-are-managed-sustainably-says-minister","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=51274","title":{"rendered":"Malaysia&#8217;s forest resources are managed sustainably, says minister"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 19 (NNN-BERNAMA) &#8212;\u00a0Malaysia&#8217;s forest resources are managed sustainably to ensure availability of timber and timber products\u00a0amid concerns from developed markets towards the environment.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Minister of Primary Industries Teresa Kok said as a responsible global player, Malaysia&#8217;s timber industry has established high credibility to provide quality, legal and sustainable timber according to&nbsp;market demand.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;As at September 2019, 4.31 million hectares of our forests are certified under the Malaysian Timber Certification Scheme (MTCS)&#8217;s Programme for the Endorsement of the Forest Certification,&#8221; she said in her speech at the launch of Malaysian Wood Expo 2019 here, Tuesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To date, a cumulative total of 2.06 million cubic metres of MTCS certified timber and timber products have been exported to 68 countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kok said ensuring sufficient supply of raw material was one of the important thrusts&nbsp;under the National Timber Industry Policy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;In this regard, the government has established a forest plantation fund to reduce pressure on native forest.
