{"id":5116,"date":"2019-01-08T09:52:48","date_gmt":"2019-01-08T01:52:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/10.0.5.12\/nnn\/?p=5116"},"modified":"2019-01-08T09:52:50","modified_gmt":"2019-01-08T01:52:50","slug":"dakar-rally-2019-makes-symbolic-start-in-perus-lima","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=5116","title":{"rendered":"Dakar Rally 2019 Makes Symbolic Start in Peru&#8217;s Lima"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>\n\nLIMA, Jan 7 (NNN-ANDINA) &#8212; The 41st edition of the Dakar Rally \u2014taking place entirely in Peru on Jan 6-17\u2014 kicked off with a symbolic start Sunday in Lima.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Enthusiastic spectators gathered in Magdalena district&#8217;s Costa Verde bay to watch the start podium ceremony, slated to begin at 3 PM (local time).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The event featured competitors, organizers, and eager attendees who had been waiting for the vehicles to show up.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Also attending were Lima&#8217;s Mayor Jorge Mu\u00f1oz, as well as Ministers Edgar Vasquez (Foreign Trade and Tourism) and Fabiola Mu\u00f1oz (Environment), among other dignitaries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This year&#8217;s race will be run on a new loop rally-route, with the start and finish in Lima.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It will also traverse southern regions of Ica, Arequipa, Moquegua, and Tacna.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" src=\"http:\/\/10.0.5.12\/nnn\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/000472870M.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5117\" srcset=\"http:\/\/namnewsnetwork.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/000472870M.jpg 500w, http:\/\/namnewsnetwork.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/000472870M-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Stage cities include Lima, Pisco, San Juan de Marcona, Arequipa, Moquegua, and Tacna.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This year Argentina, Chile, and Bolivia all pulled out for reasons of austerity, leaving Peru as the sole host of the 2019 race.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It should be noted this is the first time that the Dakar will take place in a single country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This change is reflected in the reduction of the rally from 9,000 km over 14 stages in 2018 \u2014when it went through Peru, Argentina, and Bolivia\u2014 to 5,000 km across 10 stages in 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The shorter course has not put off the competition with all the big names of the recent past such as multiple winners Carlos Sainz, Stephane Peterhansel, and Cyril Despres.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"500\" height=\"334\" src=\"http:\/\/10.0.5.12\/nnn\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/000531518M.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5118\" srcset=\"http:\/\/namnewsnetwork.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/000531518M.jpg 500w, http:\/\/namnewsnetwork.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/000531518M-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>National racers such as Nicolas Fuchs, Fernanda Kanno, Diego Heilbrunn, Fernando Ferrand, Miguel Angel Alvarez, Francisco Leon, Jose Salaverry, Sergio Samaniego, and Anibal Aliaga will participate in this edition.
