JAKARTA, Nov 13 (NNN-ANTARA) – A suspected suicide bomber, struck the police headquarters in Medan, North Sumatra, on Wednesday (today), at 8:45 a.m, allegedly committed by a person wearing Gojek (online-based motorbike taxi) jacket at its canteen area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
After this incident, security around the police headquarters, located at MH Said Street, Medan, was stepped up. Some personnel of the police’ Mobile Brigade Corps guarded the entrance and safeguard traffic access into the location.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
An ambulance has also been deployed around the headquarters, while a team of Indonesia Automatic Fingerprints Identification System (INAFIS) had arrived at the scene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A spokesman of the Indonesian Police, Brig.Gen. Dedi Prasetyo, stated in Jakarta that, the police’s anti-terror squad (Densus 88) and the Regional Police of North Sumatera are currently conducting a crime scene investigation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“We are now awaiting for the investigation result,” Antara reported him saying.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Meanwhile, Bernama correspondent in Jakarta, Mohd Shukri Ishak reported that six people have been injured in the incident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to a police statement, a man had walked into the police station and blew himself up, injuring five policemen and a civilian.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The suicide bomber, clad in a e-hailing transport vest, entered the Medan police headquarters at 8.45 am (9.45 am in Malaysia)\u00a0pretending that he had something to do there, the statement said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The bomber’s body is said to have been blown to pieces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A spokesman of the Malaysian embassy here confirmed that Malaysians were unaffected by the incident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
