{"id":45614,"date":"2019-10-09T13:08:30","date_gmt":"2019-10-09T05:08:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=45614"},"modified":"2019-10-09T13:16:19","modified_gmt":"2019-10-09T05:16:19","slug":"malaysia-aims-for-more-than-12-million-tourist-arrivals-from-singapore","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=45614","title":{"rendered":"Malaysia aims for more than 12 million tourist arrivals from Singapore"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h5>By Massita Ahmad<br><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>SINGAPORE, Oct 9 (NNN-BERNAMA) &#8212; Tourism Malaysia which\u00a0launched the official\u00a0Visit Malaysia 2020 campaign in Singapore on Tuesday, is aiming for\u00a0more than 12 million tourist arrivals from the republic next year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tourism Malaysia is also optimistic of&nbsp;an increase of three to five per cent tourist arrivals from the southern neighbour for the whole of 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the Director of Tourism Malaysia Singapore, Edzuar Zar Ayob Azari, for this year, Tourism Malaysia&nbsp;expects 12 million tourist arrivals from the city-state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"614\" src=\"http:\/\/www.namnewsnetwork.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/Kuala-lumpur-tourism-1024x614.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-45615\" srcset=\"http:\/\/namnewsnetwork.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/Kuala-lumpur-tourism-1024x614.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/namnewsnetwork.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/Kuala-lumpur-tourism-300x180.jpg 300w, http:\/\/namnewsnetwork.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/Kuala-lumpur-tourism-768x460.jpg 768w, http:\/\/namnewsnetwork.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/Kuala-lumpur-tourism.jpg 1839w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption>KUALA LUMPUR: File photo of lion dance troupe, Junawai Dragon &amp; Lion Dance from the Malaysian Inbound Tourism Association entertaining tourists on board the &#8216;KL-Hop-On Hop-Off&#8217; bus in Jalan Ampang, here. &#8211;Photo courtesy of BERNAMA<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Going by the current trend, we will witness a rise of between three to four per cent in tourist arrivals from Singapore this year compared to 2018, he told&nbsp;Bernama when met on the sidelines of the VM2020 launch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The &nbsp;VM2020 campaign here was launched by Malaysia\u2019s High Commissioner&nbsp;to Singapore, Datuk Zainol Rahim Zainuddin, together with Senior Deputy Director, International Promotion Division (Southeast Asia) of Tourism Malaysia, Azilina Azni Zainal Abidin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;We are also targeting a rise of three per cent to&nbsp;12 million tourist arrivals from&nbsp;Singapore to&nbsp;Malaysia next year,&#8221; said Edzuar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For the first half of 2019, Singaporeans were the top international tourist arrivals to Malaysia at&nbsp;5,381,566 alongside the the highest receipts of RM11.56 billion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Singaporean arrivals,&nbsp;however, fell 14.7 per cent to 10.62 million in 2018 compared with 2017 due to among other reasons, traffic congestion on the Johor-Singapore Causeway and changing travel&nbsp;trends among Singaporeans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Edzuar hoped that initiatives by&nbsp;a special committee chaired by Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad can&nbsp;help ease congestion&nbsp;on the Johor Causeway, as this&nbsp;could lure more tourist arrivals from Singapore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During its first meeting held on Aug 21, the committee said among others, Malaysia will look into widening and lengthening the Causeway and expanding the checkpoint complex to tackle the heavy congestion at the link between Johor and Singapore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8211;NNN-BERNAMA<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Massita Ahmad SINGAPORE, Oct 9 (NNN-BERNAMA) &#8212; Tourism Malaysia which\u00a0launched the official\u00a0Visit Malaysia 2020 campaign in Singapore on Tuesday, is aiming for\u00a0more than 12 million tourist arrivals from the republic next year.
