{"id":43965,"date":"2019-09-26T17:27:49","date_gmt":"2019-09-26T09:27:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=43965"},"modified":"2019-09-26T17:27:51","modified_gmt":"2019-09-26T09:27:51","slug":"us-china-conflict-could-end-up-boosting-asean-intra-trade","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=43965","title":{"rendered":"US-China conflict could end up boosting Asean intra-trade"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 26 (NNN-BERNAMA) &#8212; The United States (US)-China conflict has the potential to boost the integration of member states of the Association of South East Asian Nations (Asean),  says Malaysia&#8217;s Deputy Minister of International Trade and Industry, Dr\u00a0Ong Kian Ming.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said Asean&#8217;s integration could\u00a0materialise\u00a0in three ways;\u00a0for instance, when Chinese companies come to invest in Southeast Asia, they would also export to other Asean countries, thus\u00a0increasing\u00a0intra-Asean\u00a0trade flows.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Secondly, the US and Chinese\u00a0companies may want to partner or link parts of their supply chain (with companies) in the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Thirdly, local vendors under the\u00a0Belt and Road initiative can also export within Asean\u00a0to other Chinese companies,&#8221; he told reporters on the sidelines of the ASEAN\u00a0Prosperity Forum, hosted by the Institute for Democracy and Economic Affairs (IDEAS), today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hence, the conflict between the two economic superpowers could boost trade and investment relations among\u00a0Asean countries, said Ong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>IDEAS had also released its ASEAN\u00a0Integration Report 2019 which assesses\u00a0the outcomes of Asean\u00a0integration using a set of economic indicators as an external assessment on\u00a0the implementation of the Asean Economic Blueprint 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8211;NNN-BERNAMA<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 26 (NNN-BERNAMA) &#8212; The United States (US)-China conflict has the potential to boost the integration of member states of the Association of South East Asian Nations (Asean), says Malaysia&#8217;s Deputy Minister of International Trade and Industry, Dr\u00a0Ong Kian Ming.
