{"id":42474,"date":"2019-09-15T11:22:21","date_gmt":"2019-09-15T03:22:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=42474"},"modified":"2019-09-15T11:52:13","modified_gmt":"2019-09-15T03:52:13","slug":"cholera-vaccination-campaign-launched-in-yemens-sanaa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=42474","title":{"rendered":"Cholera Vaccination Campaign Launched In Yemen&#8217;s Sanaa"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>SANAA, Sept 15 (NNN-SABA) &#8211; Yemen&#8217;s health officials launched oral cholera vaccinations in Sanaa, in efforts to curb the spread of the disease that has infected over one million people in the war-torn country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The door-to-door campaign is being carried out by the local health authorities, with support from the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the United Nations Children&#8217;s Fund (UNICEF).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The vaccination campaign is planned to last nine days, aiming at all residents, except pregnant women, in three major districts in central Sanaa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meanwhile, activists launched an awareness campaign on social media, to lecture people on having access to good sanitation systems and clean drinking water.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The health sector is badly affected by the war, which allowed the spread of cholera and other diseases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The epidemic has been spreading in Yemen since Oct, 2016, but the number of cholera cases re-surged after Apr, 2017, as the country&#8217;s sewer system stopped working because of the war.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cholera in Yemen has set the world&#8217;s highest record with infection of over one million people and over 2,000 have been confirmed dead, since 2017, according to WHO.&#8211; NNN-SABA <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>SANAA, Sept 15 (NNN-SABA) &#8211; Yemen&#8217;s health officials launched oral cholera vaccinations in Sanaa, in efforts to curb the spread of the disease that has infected over one million people in the war-torn country.
