MASERU (Lesotho), Sept 6 (NNN-BERNAMA) — The Limkokwing University of Creative Technology (Limkokwing) in Lesotho, which was established over 10 years ago, has brought a fresh approach to the country’s education system, said Lesotho\u2019s Minister of Education and Training Prof. Ntoi Rapapa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The minister said the university, a strategic partner of Lesotho, incorporates the teachings of the West and the East and places a high emphasis on practical knowledge that produces ready and industry-relevant graduates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The Limkokwing University Lesotho is truly transforming our nation and our young citizens by building creative human capital that we truly need in heading towards a developed nation status,” he said in his speech before presenting scrolls to graduates at the Class of 2019 Convocation Ceremony, here, Thursday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rapapa said through the university, the graduates are driving innovation and developing a knowledge-based economy for the African nation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The minister said that this, in turn, has encouraged a new form of skills development that fosters new job creators and has paved the way for Lesotho to provide the high demand for the technically-skilled workforce to meet industry expectations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“It is not surprising that its (Limkokwing) model and methodology have been acknowledged by the World Bank to be potentially emulated in the developing world, while UNESCO has called it a New Model University,” said Rapapa. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This year’s convocation, themed \u2018Designing The Future\u2019, saw about 2,000 students graduating in various disciplines such as architecture technology, business management, broadcasting, entrepreneurship, and international tourism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, Limkokwing Founder and President Dr Lim Kok Wing, in his speech, said he believed the graduates would be the driving force to Lesotho\u2019s globalisation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSoon, you will be known for the designs you create, the music you produce, the films you direct, the buildings you design and the fashion statements you make.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cYou will be among the most celebrated game-changers this country will get to see,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event was graced by Lesotho\u2019s Queen ‘Masenate Mohato Seeiso, Deputy Prime Minister Dr Monyane Moleleki as well as other government officials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Limkokwing University is one of the most renowned Malaysian universities for international education in Africa, with branch campuses here, in Bostwana, Eswatini and Sierra Leone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was founded in 1991 by Lim with a mission to transform youths into confident, skilled and tech-savvy individuals who will contribute creatively and innovatively to the world\u2019s economy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
