AMMAN, Jordan, Aug 22 (NNN-PETRA) – King Abdullah of Jordan, underlined the need to step up efforts to achieve just, comprehensive and lasting peace, on the basis of the two-state solution between Palestinians and Israelis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Such a solution should guarantee the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, the king said, at a meeting with a U.S. Congress delegation, in Amman.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He voiced Jordan’s appreciation for U.S. support in various development programmes, while emphasising the important role of the U.S. Congress in this regard, according to a Royal Court statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Meanwhile, the U.S. delegation expressed appreciation for Jordan’s role in promoting peace and stability in the region, and dealing with the current regional conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Earlier, Jordanian Prime Minster, Omar Razzaz, also met with the U.S. delegation, highlighting the need to intensify efforts to reach a just and sustainable peace in the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
