{"id":36209,"date":"2019-08-05T09:05:58","date_gmt":"2019-08-05T01:05:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=36209"},"modified":"2019-08-05T09:06:00","modified_gmt":"2019-08-05T01:06:00","slug":"south-africa-to-promote-womens-role-in-peace-and-security-at-un","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=36209","title":{"rendered":"South Africa to Promote Women&#8217;s Role in Peace and Security at UN"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p> Pretoria, Aug 5 (NNN-Prensa Latina) South Africa will promote debates on women&#8221;s role in peace and security at the United Nations, taking advantage of its position as a non-permanent member of the Security Council, Foreign Minister Nadeli Pandor announced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The minister for International Relations and Cooperation said at a meeting on South Africa&#8217;s stance on women that the debate will take place in October, when the country will hold the presidency of the Security Council.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She explained that South Africa is working on a draft resolution, along with other UN member States and its specialized agency (UN Women), to discuss the role women should play in peace and security.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The minister underlined that no woman has started a war, but millions of them are victims of armed conflicts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They must participate in achieving peace and should not be excluded, Pandor noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The diplomat charged that countries outside Africa use the continent as a base of conflicts, and called on non-governmental organizations to oversee the role of the peace forces of the United Nations and the African Union. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\n\nNNN-Prensa Latina\n\n<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Pretoria, Aug 5 (NNN-Prensa Latina) South Africa will promote debates on women&#8221;s role in peace and security at the United Nations, taking advantage of its position as a non-permanent member of the Security Council, Foreign Minister Nadeli Pandor announced.
