{"id":324980,"date":"2026-03-31T18:34:09","date_gmt":"2026-03-31T10:34:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=324980"},"modified":"2026-03-31T18:35:33","modified_gmt":"2026-03-31T10:35:33","slug":"malaysia-has-high-potential-for-enhanced-cooperation-in-japans-strategic-fields-ambassador","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=324980","title":{"rendered":"Malaysia Has High Potential For Enhanced Cooperation In Japan&#8217;s Strategic Fields: Ambassador"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>KUALA LUMPUR, March 31 (NNN-Bernama) &#8212; Malaysia has strong potential to expand cooperation in nearly all 17 strategic fields outlined in Japan\u2019s Takaichi administration Growth Strategy, which aims to revitalise the country\u2019s economy, Japan\u2019s Ambassador to Malaysia, Noriyuki Shikata, said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He emphasised that the visions of Japan and Malaysia are closely aligned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cPrime Minister (Sanae) Takaichi\u2019s concept of &#8216;Growth Strategy&#8217; is closely aligned with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim\u2019s &#8216;MADANI&#8217; vision of sustainability, prosperity, and innovation,\u201d Shikata said in his opening remarks at the New Japan-Malaysia Industrial Partnership Seminar on Tuesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He noted, for example, that in artificial intelligence (AI) and semiconductors, Penang has established itself as a global hub for back-end processing, earning the nickname \u201cSilicon Valley of the East\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The ambassador said as Japan advances efforts to revitalise its semiconductor industry, including the Rapidus project, the country seeks to further upgrade collaboration with Malaysia in semiconductor-related human resource development and supply chain integration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Shikata noted that Malaysia has long been a trusted leading supplier of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Japan, providing about 15 per cent of the country\u2019s LNG imports today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhen Japan was hit by Great East Japan Quake in 2011, Petronas announced it was increasing LNG supplies by arranging additional LNG cargoes to help address the sudden surge in demand in Japan,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On rare earths, Shikata highlighted Malaysia\u2019s critical role in refining, which accounts for the world\u2019s second-largest share after China.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cLynas, a major rare earth refining company based in Malaysia, is supported by investments from the Japan Organisation for Metals and Energy Security (JOGMEC) and Japanese trading company Sojitz, contributing significantly to supply chain resilience by reducing dependence on specific countries,\u201d Shikata said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He also pointed to the potential of Green Transformation (GX).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBy combining Japan\u2019s advanced green technologies with Malaysia\u2019s resources, such as ammonia production using Sarawak\u2019s abundant hydroelectric power and Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS), we can accelerate the transition to a decarbonised society,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The ambassador said Japan is committed to further catalysing these efforts through the Asia Zero Emission Community (AZEC) framework to achieve the \u201cnet zero\u201d shared goal while ensuring energy security and sustainable economic growth across the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI am confident that by leveraging our respective strengths across diverse fields &#8212; from food security and cybersecurity to the Halal industry, content industry such as ACG (Anime, Comic &amp; Game), healthcare, and disaster management &#8212; we can create significant new value for both our nations,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8212; NNN-BERNAMA<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>KUALA LUMPUR, March 31 (NNN-Bernama) &#8212; Malaysia has strong potential to expand cooperation in nearly all 17 strategic fields outlined in Japan\u2019s Takaichi administration Growth Strategy, which aims to revitalise the country\u2019s economy, Japan\u2019s Ambassador to Malaysia, Noriyuki Shikata, said.
