{"id":323330,"date":"2026-01-28T11:58:30","date_gmt":"2026-01-28T03:58:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=323330"},"modified":"2026-01-28T11:58:30","modified_gmt":"2026-01-28T03:58:30","slug":"us-two-dead-after-plane-crash-that-caused-large-scale-idaho-power-outage","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=323330","title":{"rendered":"US: Two dead after plane crash that caused large-scale Idaho Power outage"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img src=\"https:\/\/media.ktvb.com\/assets\/KTVB\/images\/75481fc1-6c2b-4c90-9414-89c013658dc8\/20260128T000553\/75481fc1-6c2b-4c90-9414-89c013658dc8_1920x1080.jpg\" alt=\"Two dead after plane hits power pole, crash into Payette River\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>GEM COUNTY (Idaho, US), Jan 28 (NNN-AGENCIES) &#8212; Two people are dead following a plane crash where the aircraft\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ktvb.com\/article\/news\/local\/community-reacts-deadly-plane-crash-near-emmett-payette-river\/277-dba117fa-c392-4523-a6f9-c0371f36ec6d\" target=\"_blank\">plummeted into the Payette River<\/a>\u00a0near Black Canyon Tuesday morning, the Gem County Sheriff\u2019s Office confirmed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The sheriff&#8217;s office said based on preliminary information from first responders, the pilot clipped a powerline, then crashed onto the ice in the river.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Idaho Power separately confirmed to KTVB that the large-scale power outage was caused by an airplane hitting the power line that feeds electricity to Horseshoe Bend and the surrounding area.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As of Tuesday afternoon, the Gem County Sheriff&#8217;s Office and Gem County Fire &amp; EMS are on scene near Black Canyon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Following the crash, the power outage was reported just before 11 a.m. More than 5,300 customers were affected by the outage in Crouch, Horseshoe Bend and Placerville. As of 2:45 p.m., Idaho Power has restored power to all customers who lost it during the outage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Those impacted include schools in Horseshoe Bend, who\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/HorseshoeBendSchools\/posts\/pfbid033Jca2nASWEH3nfg8MpraggSvsC8gDTayPgk45vjCM6v1UgzK8ecALJJYQ79uU5kzl\" target=\"_blank\">on Facebook said<\/a>\u00a0the district has been in contact with Idaho Power. Representatives from the company told school officials that morning that power was estimated to be returned to the area between 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. Tuesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since the school cannot heat buildings in the interim, classes have been canceled for the day. Students were sent home by 12:15 p.m., according to the district.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Secondary school students (grades 6-12) were allowed to return home without parental approval.
