{"id":321965,"date":"2026-01-12T13:25:31","date_gmt":"2026-01-12T05:25:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=321965"},"modified":"2026-01-12T13:25:31","modified_gmt":"2026-01-12T05:25:31","slug":"tanzania-china-deepen-ties","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=321965","title":{"rendered":"Tanzania, China deepen ties"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img src=\"https:\/\/dailynews.co.tz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/Rais-wa-Jamhuri-ya-Muungano-wa-Tanzania-Mhe.-Dkt.-Samia-Suluhu-Hassan-akiwa-kwenye-mazungumzo-na-780x470.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>President Samia Suluhu Hassan hosts China\u2019s Foreign Minister Wang Yi at State House, Dar es Salaam<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>DAR ES SALAAM, Jan 12 (NNN-DAILYNEWS) &#8212;<\/strong>\u00a0PRESIDENT Samia Suluhu Hassan has reaffirmed Tanzania\u2019s commitment to its long-standing strategic partnership with China and acknowledged her consistent support for Tanzania.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She made the remarks during a meeting with the Minister for Foreign Affairs of the People\u2019s Republic of China, Wang Yi, at Dar es Salaam State House.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The President emphasised the importance of expanding exports, improving the trade balance and promoting business and people-to-people exchanges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She also highlighted the need to streamline visa arrangements to facilitate mobility between the two countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr Samia further outlined Tanzania\u2019s strategic vision for revitalising the operations of the Tanzania-Zambia Railway Authority (TAZARA) and associated economic activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On his part, Minister Yi expressed the Chinese government\u2019s commitment to continued cooperation with Tanzania and reaffirmed his country\u2019s firm support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He described TAZARA as a historic symbol of China-Tanzania friendship and assured China\u2019s readiness to support its modernisation and effective utilisation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Yi also reiterated China\u2019s support for Tanzania\u2019s priority projects, including infrastructure development, water supply, clean cooking initiatives and concessional financing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Both sides reaffirmed their shared commitment to strengthening China-Tanzania relations and advancing multilateral cooperation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The commitment comes as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the long-standing fraternal relations built on mutual respect and trust.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Earlier speaking to journalists on Friday after holding talks, Yi, who is on a two-day official visit, held talks with the Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Ambassador Mahmoud Thabit Kombo, and discussed various aspects of historical and strategic cooperation between the two countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOur discussions focused particularly on political, economic and social matters. We emphasised the need to deepen our long-standing brotherly relations,\u201d said Kombo, highlighting the importance of trust and mutual respect as the foundation of the Tanzania\u2013China partnership.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the talks, the two leaders also agreed on plans to revitalise the Tanzania\u2013 Zambia Railway Authority (TAZARA) and convert it into a modern electric railway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The move is intended to honour the Chinese nationals who lost their lives during the railway\u2019s construction while boosting regional trade and economic growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kombo conveyed Tanzania\u2019s sincere appreciation to China for its sustained and significant support in implementing the country\u2019s national development agenda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said China\u2019s contributions have been particularly impactful in strategic sectors including infrastructure, health, education, energy and industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He further reiterated the Tanzanian government\u2019s commitment to continue working closely with China to attract investment, trade and technology, all aimed at stimulating economic growth and improving the livelihoods of Tanzanian citizens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In response, Wang Yi reiterated China\u2019s readiness to continue supporting Tanzania\u2019s development agenda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said that China remains a reliable partner not only to Tanzania but also to Africa in implementing shared development goals under initiatives such as the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and the Forum on China\u2013Africa Cooperation (FOCAC).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cChina is ready to continue supporting Tanzania\u2019s development efforts and will remain a dependable partner in implementing our shared development agendas, including BRI and FOCAC projects,\u201d said Yi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He added that the upgrade of the TAZARA railway into an electric line would be carried out based on proposals from both Tanzania and Zambia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The project is expected to enhance the value of the railway and serve as a key driver of development in the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2025 alone, the Tanzania Investment and Special Economic Zones Authority (TISEZA) registered 343 Chinese projects valued at 3.1 billion US dollars, which created over 82,000 jobs, reflecting the growing role of Chinese investment in the country\u2019s economy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tanzania and China have long cooperated in the transport infrastructure sector, with the TAZARA railway standing as one of the most enduring symbols of friendship between the two nations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Stretching 1,860 kilometres\u2014975 kilometres in Tanzania and 885 kilometres in Zambia the railway continues to represent unity, solidarity and brotherhood.\u00a0&#8212; NNN-DAILYNEWS<a href=\"https:\/\/dailynews.co.tz\/body-parts-that-do-not-grow-after-birth\/\"><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>DAR ES SALAAM, Jan 12 (NNN-DAILYNEWS) &#8212;\u00a0PRESIDENT Samia Suluhu Hassan has reaffirmed Tanzania\u2019s commitment to its long-standing strategic partnership with China and acknowledged her consistent support for Tanzania.
