LIMA, July 10 (NNN-ANDINA) — Peru’s Lava Jato Case Special Prosecution Group on Tuesday morning raided the home of\u00a0former First Lady Nadine Heredia<\/a>\u00a0\u2014wife of ex-President Ollanta Humala<\/a>\u2014 in Lima’s Surco district, as well as on other 25 properties linked to the investigation on the Southern Gas Pipeline (Gasoducto del Sur).<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Magistrates and members of the National Police’s High Complexity Investigations Division (Diviac) participated in the operation led by\u00a0Prosecutor Geovanna Mori<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Heredia’s attorney Wilfredo Pedraza arrived at her house and said that his client would cooperate with the search. However, the lawyer deemed the measure as arbitrary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mori currently investigates the\u00a0alleged bribe payments \u2014made by Odebrecht\u2014 for the awarding of the Southern Gas Pipeline (Gasoducto del Sur) during ex-President Ollanta Humala’s term in office<\/a>\u00a0(2011-2016).\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to IDL-Reporteros,\u00a0the homes of former Energy and Mines Minister Rosa Maria Ortiz and ex-Deputy Energy and Mines Minister Luis Ortigas were also raided<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In mid-February,\u00a0Peru’s Lava Jato Case Special Prosecution Group\u00a0signed the long-awaited collaboration agreement with Odebrecht representatives\u00a0<\/a>and former employees in Brazil. The accord did not include the Southern Gas Pipeline project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This deal was intended to procure evidence and testimonies\u00a0for the investigation of corruption cases in the Andean nation<\/a>.\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As is known, the Brazilian construction giant admitted to having paid millions in bribes to government officials in Peru, in order to secure public-works contracts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a result,\u00a0Odebrecht\u00a0<\/a>benefited from over US$143 million between 2005 and 2014 in Peru, according to the U.S. Justice Department.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition, four ex-Presidents have been linked to the Brazilian company such\u00a0as:\u00a0Alejandro Toledo (2001-2006)<\/a>,\u00a0Alan Garcia (2006-2011)<\/a>,\u00a0Ollanta Humala (2011-2016)<\/a>, and\u00a0Pedro Pablo Kuczynski (2016-2018)<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Former presidential candidate\u00a0Keiko Fujimori \u2014currently under preventive detention\u2014 allegedly received money from Odebrecht<\/a>\u00a0for her 2011 campaign.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ex Lima Mayor Susana Villaran also admitted that Odebrecht and OAS had financed an anti-recall campaign<\/a>\u00a0during her tenure between 2011 and 2014.\u00a0She currently serves a 24-month preventive detention<\/a>. — NNN-ANDINA
