KUALA LUMPUR, July 9 (NNN-BERNAMA) — Malaysia’s Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook\u00a0has urged\u00a0players in the entire logistics sector to embrace green logistics\u00a0in order to achieve greater efficiency in reducing\u00a0carbon emissions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Loke also said logistic companies should seize the opportunities that the market has to offer as green logistics would eventually gain sustainability and increase profitability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cLogistics plays a central role in the global economy and therefore the industry can play a crucial part in the way business is done with regard to their impact on the environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cMore often than not, industry players shy away from embracing green logistics due to the misconception that it needs substantial investment in costly technology,\u201d he said during his speech in conjunction with the Inaugural Green Logistics Partnership Conference here today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“In cognisance of the logistics industry\u2019s potential, the government has formulated the Logistics and Trade Facilitation Masterplan from 2015 to 2020 to drive the industry through five strategic shifts,” he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Among the five strategies are strengthening the institutional and regulatory framework; enhancing the trade facilitation mechanism; and internationalising logistics services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Loke called on the Malaysian private sector to emulate Japanese companies that have shown high commitment in practising and actively implementing green logistics in their country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“The Japanese have proven that a business that pays attention to improving efficiency will eventually gain sustainability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“They focus on process improvement and collaboration to increase efficiency, which will contribute to reducing cost, time as well as carbon emissions. Yet, most importantly for a business entity, it will increase profitability,” he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
