{"id":285492,"date":"2024-12-07T14:05:13","date_gmt":"2024-12-07T06:05:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=285492"},"modified":"2024-12-07T14:05:13","modified_gmt":"2024-12-07T06:05:13","slug":"ivory-coast-minibus-collision-kills-at-least-26","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=285492","title":{"rendered":"Ivory Coast minibus collision kills at least 26"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img src=\"https:\/\/www.bssnews.net\/assets\/news_photos\/2024\/12\/07\/image-228965-1733548779.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>ABIDJAN, Dec 7 (NNN-AGENCIES) &#8212; At least 26 people were killed and dozens injured Friday in a crash between two minibuses in western Ivory Coast, the transport ministry said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The collision on the Daloa-Issia road left &#8220;26 killed, 10 of whom were burned, and 28 injured,&#8221; Oumar Sacko, director general of land transport, said in a statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A ministry team was dispatched to the scene and an investigation launched &#8220;to shed full light on the circumstances of the accident with its heavy human and material toll,&#8221; the statement added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fatal road accidents are frequent in Ivory Coast, due to the poor state of some roads and vehicles, and to motorists who have not passed their driving test.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last month, 20 people were killed in similar circumstances near the city of Gagnoa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In September, 13 people were burned to death when a car and a tanker collided in the north.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Between 1,000 and 1,500 people die on average per year in traffic accidents in Ivory Coast, where there are around 1.5 million vehicles in circulation, according to the transport ministry.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In recent years, the government has introduced a series of measures to reduce fatal accidents, including points on drivers&#8217; licences, a ban on importing cars over five years old, road maintenance and video cameras.\u00a0&#8212; NNN-AGENCIES<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>ABIDJAN, Dec 7 (NNN-AGENCIES) &#8212; At least 26 people were killed and dozens injured Friday in a crash between two minibuses in western Ivory Coast, the transport ministry said.
