{"id":281932,"date":"2024-11-05T11:30:58","date_gmt":"2024-11-05T03:30:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=281932"},"modified":"2024-11-05T11:35:56","modified_gmt":"2024-11-05T03:35:56","slug":"sri-lanka-launches-measles-vaccination-programme-targeting-youth","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=281932","title":{"rendered":"Sri Lanka Launches Measles Vaccination Programme Targeting Youth"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>COLOMBO, Nov 5 (NNN-XINHUA) &#8211; Sri Lanka&#8217;s Ministry of Health, launched a special measles vaccination programme starting yesterday and running until Nov 9, targeting selected districts, in response to recent cases of the disease.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hasitha Tissera, a senior epidemiologist at the Ministry of Health, announced that, the programme will be conducted in 12 districts across the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although Sri Lanka successfully eliminated measles, cases were reported in certain areas last year, according to Tissera.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This programme specifically targets young people who, for various reasons, did not receive the full dose of the measles vaccine, he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccine was introduced into Sri Lanka&#8217;s immunisation programme in 1984.
