{"id":26976,"date":"2019-05-31T16:21:24","date_gmt":"2019-05-31T08:21:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=26976"},"modified":"2019-05-31T16:21:26","modified_gmt":"2019-05-31T08:21:26","slug":"malaysia-arrests-3-terror-suspects-with-daesh-links","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=26976","title":{"rendered":"Malaysia arrests 3 terror suspects with Daesh links"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>KUALA LUMPUR, May 31 (NNN-BERNAMA) &#8212; Malaysian police have arrested three terror suspects,\u00a0Malaysia\u2019s police chief Abdul Hamid Bador said.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The suspects &#8211;\u00a0a Malaysian man and two foreigners aged between 28 and\u00a042 &#8211; were arrested during an operation conducted by the Special Branch Counter Terrorism Division from May 24 to May\u00a030,\u00a0Abdul Hamid said in a statement.<br><br>The first arrested suspect&nbsp;is a 42-year-old Malaysian contractor who was seized at&nbsp;Kuala Lumpur International Airport on May 17. He was leaving for Egypt with plans to ultimately head to&nbsp;Syria.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He had pledged his allegiance\u00a0twice to Daesh leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi via Facebook.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe suspect is also a&nbsp;staunch believer of the Salafi Jihadi ideology which rejects the parliamentary democracy system and does not recognise the Malaysian government &#8230; any Muslim involved in election is labelled as infidel and can be killed,\u201d Abdul Hamid said.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img src=\"https:\/\/www.channelnewsasia.com\/image\/11581542\/0x0\/965\/1080\/2f616c6acd7a6200d4e35d2950cf9a54\/SU\/police-nabbed-three-suspected-members-of-terrorist-groups.jpg\" alt=\"police nabbed three suspected members of terrorist groups\"\/><figcaption>The suspects were captured in an operation conducted from&nbsp;May 24 to May&nbsp;30, 2019. (Photo: Bernama)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>One of the foreigners to be arrested was a 20-year-old Indonesian man who worked as a labourer in&nbsp;Keningau, Sabah.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He is suspected of facilitating terrorist groups from Indonesia that were travelling to the&nbsp;southern Philippines to carry out&nbsp;suicide missions by way of Sabah.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe suspect also channeled funds to Maute terrorist groups in southern Philippines and he also planned to fight in Syria,\u201d said Abdul Hamid.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The last arrest was of a 28-year-old&nbsp;Bangladeshi who was captured on Thursday. The ship engine assistant possessed the necessary chemicals and expertise to produce&nbsp;improvised&nbsp;explosive devices (IEDs).&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another Indonesian suspect is still at large.
