{"id":268467,"date":"2024-06-28T15:32:24","date_gmt":"2024-06-28T07:32:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=268467"},"modified":"2024-06-28T15:32:25","modified_gmt":"2024-06-28T07:32:25","slug":"slovakia-seven-killed-as-train-collides-with-bus-at-railway-crossing-five-injured-and-train-caught-fire","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=268467","title":{"rendered":"Slovakia: Seven killed as train collides with bus at railway crossing; five injured and train caught fire"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img src=\"https:\/\/www.bssnews.net\/assets\/news_photos\/2024\/06\/28\/image-197280-1719553667.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>BRATISLAVA, June 28 (NNN-AGENCIES) &#8212; Seven people were killed and five others injured Thursday when a passenger train and bus collided at a railway crossing in southern Slovakia, rescuers said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The crash occurred just after 5:00 pm near the southwestern town of Nove Zamky, the CTK news agency reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Railway spokeswoman Vladimira Bahylova said the Eurocity train had been headed from Prague to Budapest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Seven people suffered injuries incompatible with life,&#8221; the Slovak rescue service said, updating a previous toll of six dead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Five people were injured,&#8221; it added on Facebook.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Petra Klimesova, a spokeswoman of the rescue services, said the injured required &#8220;immediate medical assistance&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bahylova said the driver of the train &#8220;suffered burns because the locomotive caught on fire&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She said the collision occurred at a railway crossing that was protected by barriers and was equipped with light signals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Interior Minister Matus Sutaj Estok later travelled to the scene of the incident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He told reporters it was not clear whether the cause was a technical or human failure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Local media published video footage of passengers carrying luggage alongside a train partially in flames, as thick grey smoke rose to the sky.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Passenger Katarina Molnarova, who recorded the video, said that she &#8220;felt and heard a crash and a bang&#8221; just as the train left the Nove Zamky station.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;After a couple of minutes we were able to get off&#8230; We saw that the frontal part of the train was on fire,&#8221; said the 43-year-old cosmetician from the southern town of Sturovo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;There was no screaming or panicking&#8230; We grabbed our luggage and walked to the road&#8230; I saw parts of the bus that had been scattered upon impact.&#8221; &#8212; NNN-AGENCIES<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>BRATISLAVA, June 28 (NNN-AGENCIES) &#8212; Seven people were killed and five others injured Thursday when a passenger train and bus collided at a railway crossing in southern Slovakia, rescuers said.
